Scotty,

my elderly dad passed away last year and his wife offered me his 1995 Jeep Cherokee 4 door automatic sport for $1000.00.  Has 148000 miles, cosmetic condition is good, spent its whole life in dry Nevada. It hasn’t been driven in about three or four years.  I have no idea the mechanical condition but was running well before he lost his license. Has the 6 cylinder engine.  Was this a good era for these trucks?

Thanks,

Ed

Hey man. I own a 95 grand cherokee that i bought used in 1997. I still drive it to this day. 5.2L with 213K on it. I would buy it for 1K bucks and use it as a weekend driver. I only commute 5 miles each way to work and have since 2001. So I don't put a lot of miles on it. I originally got it as a hunting rig. You could rebuild the entire thing for about a thousand bucks at a wrecking yard. I know a woman who has the 95 (same color as mine) with the 6 cyl engine. Both are automatic trans. So far neither has had any major issues. You may find the seals are dried out if its been sitting for 3 yrs. Just keep watching/ adding fluid until they re-hydrate. Not sure what your vehicle needs are or if you like working on jeeps, but it could be a handy spare vehicle for the money.

Not really (Dodge bought them in the 80's).  But then again I really couldn't recommend someone routinely drive a 25yo vehicle (unless a mech and/or a classic).  And $1k?  A bit much too imo.  Now for nostalgia, memories etc and to get running to be rarely driven... I would consider it briefly...
