1996 ford ranger 2.3 5 speed doesn’t reach operating temp

I bought this truck from a customer cuz it had a blown engine, installed a used engine. when i start driving it, my coolant doesnt go to operating temp. still seating at 165 after 30 minutes when i hook up my scan tool.  i changed the thermostat, coolant temp sensor, but not the coolant temp sensor for the gauge. still doesnt go to operating temp. help

Well change the sensor even the gauge itself in a dash could be bad if you put a correct thermostat in a car cannot run 2 Cool that keeps it from running cool so probably just giving the wrong

You could use one of those infrared temperature guns and scan the radiator after driving it for 20 minutes or so. 

 

Did you make sure to bleed and top off the coolant when you did the thermostat?
