1996 Geo Metro Gear Oil

I have a 1996 Geo Metro LSi, 3-door hatchback, 1.0L L3, with 270k miles on the dash, plus about 12k driven with a broken cable, and a 5-speed manual transmission from an 89 LSi, that had probably about 300-400k on it before the swap into the 96. It calls for 75W90 gear oil *GL-4*. That's hard to find. I'm reading that the metros tans has brass rings, and that GL-5 oil is bad for brass rings. Where can I find suitable fluid, and what might be an alternative to 75W90 GL-4?

Well as these transmissions are built with needle bearings, I am a big believer in using engine oil in these gearboxes straight weight 50, or multi-grade. Especially a synthetic brand of oil. I may be wrong but it always worked out for me. So just saying.

Scotty your thoughts?
