Hi Scotty,

I have a 1996 Honda Accord Coupe LX 2.2L SOHC with an automatic transmission. When I'm on the Freeway and get to 70 mph, the rpms get to about 2900 when I hit between 75 an 80 mph the rpm gets to about 3400. My 2003 accord gets to 2600 rpm when at 80 mph so the1996 seems a little high. Thoughts?

By the way, the motor has approximately 224,000 miles.
Thanks!

The '96 probably has a different gear ratio than the '03.

lots of factors in that equation....

wheel size

final drive ratio

transmission gear ratios

engine torque specs.

weight of the vehicle...

No two cars will ever match exactly.

That being said, 224k is a lot of miles. Engine compression isn't what it used to be, so it's working harder. Tranny could be worn out and slipping...

The older car probably has fewer cogs in the automatic transmission and a different final drive ratio.
