I found a stock 1997 Honda Civic coupe (5spd manual transmission) with 93k miles for $2500. This sounds too good to be true in my opinion, but I know these cars are basically indestructible. Any thoughts?

Did you see it or have it inspected? test drive it?

I think it is relaible, but it is really old and small. i think you would be better off with a newer civic that is safer because a 97 civic in an accident with one of today's big vehicles would leave you in critical condition.
