Greetings Scotty,

The body, frame, and engine of this car is in great shape for the year, The major problem is the transmission. it will not go into reverse. Additionally, even in neutral, the car still thinks its in fwd gear, but it shifts fine going though the fwd gears as I go down the road. I'm {black} not sure what to think on this one, Any thoughts?

From the sounds of things, you should check the linkage between your gear selector and the transmission, it sounds like damage or wear have put things out of sync.

Swap the transmission with one from junkyard

My father had a 1997 Corolla. Corolla's SHOULD be reliable but we had nothing but problems stalling engine issues etc. Corolla's only last if it was taken care of by the first owners. Odds are yours was not taken care of and you will have more problems and it is not worth another transmission. Odds are maybe the transmission caused ours to stall as well the trannys had issues. I dont really know much but I do know what is above.
