Hey Scotty,
beginning car enthusiasts and level 1 mechanic.. I have a 1998 Nissan pathfinder 3.3 with 161000 miles error code p0505 idle air control system malfunction. It doesn’t die or anything just has a very high idle. Almost 2 rpm’s when in park and also makes the transmission jerk when going from park to drive. My question is should I just replace the whole system/ intake manifold and idle air control valve? or take it apart and clean it very good. I tried throttle cleaner with the engine warmed up but code still remains. And if I have to clean it what would you recommend? Can I use traditional oven cleaner or simple green? Thanks again for taking to read this and I hope you’re having a great day.
all the best,
-Eric

Almost 2 rpm’s when in park
2,000 I'm sure
2 RPM is practically stalled.
should I just replace the whole system/ intake manifold and idle air control valve?
why on earth would you do that? They're expensive. Unless it's cracked, there should be nothing wrong with the manifold.
As for the IAC valve, maybe. .... how much does it cost?
or take it apart and clean it very good
well that would have been my first step, based on the code. The IAC passages need to be absolutely clean and free moving.
Can I use traditional oven cleaner or simple green?
no definitely not.
I thought you just said your have throttle cleaner. Why don't you use that?
