1998 Toyota camry, 4 cyl 2.2L, 186000 miles sometimes (5-10% of time) when accelerating it makes a squealing sound for a couple seconds, also sometimes turning the same thing. is this a power steering issue? not loosing fluid. no stains on floor. I asked a mechanic to check over for issues and I had not mentioned the noise and he said I need a power steering pump $515, and if I need all 4 hoses it would be $1100? How would he or anyone know if I need that? He said he wouldn't know if I needed to replace the lines until he was working on the pump, is that right? Please help. At another place, toyota dealship they said I need front struts, they are 10.5 years old but only 76000 miles on them ( no leaks). I'm trying to decide if I should keep the car or get another.
Can you make a YouTube video of the noise & post the link here?
More often it's either a warrant drive belt or if it has automatic tension or the automatic tensioner needs replacing because it doesn't tension as they where they will not make things tight enough start there because if it works okay otherwise I would not start throwing money into expensive pumps and things that are probably okay
