Dear Carkiller Community!

After 217,000 glorious miles, our 1998 Camry LE may be seeing its final days on the road.  It starts reliably, quietly and seems to always run perfectly, however, 8-months ago, our trusty mechanic informed us that the frame is rotted at a crucial area around right rear wheel and advised to plan to get rid of it by this winter.  I took in for oil change this week and they said a chunk came off and advised again that no later than this coming summer should we continue driving it.  My main question is, what options do you recommend for this:  is a frame at that stage and location repairable (they said no)?   Is it saleable (or do we bear liability if we sell it and someone gets hurt)?   Or do we just pay to have it junked someplace?   Any other ideas welcome.  Thanks in advance.

I should clarify my second question... Is it saleable for parts (or do we bear liability if we sell it for parts and someone still decides to drive or sell it and someone gets hurt)?

It is not economically repairable.

Take it to an auto recycler , or put it up on Craigslist as "for parts". You should be able to get a couple hundred bucks for it.

That makes sense Thanks for speedy and conclusive reply!
