Hi Scotty,
I just bought a 1998 Toyota RAV4 2WD 2.0 L automatic with 52K miles from a priavate party. He included the passenger side CV axle assembly because the boot is cracked and leaking grease. I am going to have a mechanic install it. I'm trying to make sure he bought the correct part. When I looked up the part on Amazon, it's asking me if the vehicle has the Aisin Warner 4-Speed Auto Transaxle A247E or the Aisin Warner 4-Speed Auto Transaxle A540H. How can I determine the type of transaxle?
I purchased the vehicle for $6000, and had a professional mechanic check it out. He said the only thing he found was the leaking axle boot.
After a Google search, here's what I found: For an Aisin Warner 4-Speed Automatic Transaxle A247E:
The A =Aisin Warner; 2 = Gen; 4 = # of gears; 7 = application; and E =electronic control
For the Aisin Warner 4-Speed Automatic transaxle A540H: The "H" stands for AWD Transverse mount engine!
Since my vehicle isn't AWD, I have the A247E type.
Next, I have to figure out if the vehicle is ABS or Non-ABS!
I'm guessing non-ABS because when I turn the key to the on position, I don't see a light in the dash and I don't see a ABS box under the hood on the passenger side.
Simply get your VIN number call the Toyota dealer parts department they can tell you what kind of transmission you have
