Hey Scotty, I let my truck sit for the last 8 months and over winter. When I went to use it the brakes were shot and the pedal goes to the floor. Any idea why this would happen after sitting for so long? Any help on troubleshooting and fixing the problem?
Probably a rubber seal or hose failed, or a steel brake line rusted through.
Take the top of the master cylinder and see whether the front or back brake circuit is low. Then start looking for leaks on that end of the truck. Calipers and wheel cylinders will usually leave a tell-tale trail on the inside of tires. If you don't see anything obvious put some brake fluid back in and have a helper press on the brake pedal while you look underneath.
If the master cylinder is leaking the fluid goes into the vacuum booster and will eventually ruin it.
