I'm hearing a popping noise from the driver side front, I've ruled out the cv axels being bad but don't see anything visible when I look at the suspension on that side.

Well popping is often ball joints or the strut mount on the top of the strut which is rubber. Can crack and break. Check those first. If it's a ball joint you jack the car up in the air and you can get a pry bar, put it under the ball joint and then try to pull it and if you pull it and it goes pop pop you know it's worn
