Hi Scotty,
My son is purchasing his 1st car and has about $2500 to spend. Is it possible to get a reliable car for that price and if so any thoughts about make and models?  I watched your top 5 used cars but those years/make/model are over his price range.

Ford's panther platform cars are very reliable and easy to own cars  - Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquise, Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Marauder. Of course, an older Toyota Camry or Corolla is also extremely reliable, but they will be a lot higher mileage.

Hello!

Yes, it is possible. Try to find one with low mileage, road test it. If it seems OK, take it to a mechanic to check it.

Few tips from some similar topics:

Good luck!

Older cars. Like 90s Civics and Corollas. There are always years you need to avoid but for the time being look for a 90s Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, or Nissan Sentra (they were better back then). The Ford panther platform is also pretty good. Road test it and have a mechanic check it out before inspection. Keep in mind none of these cars are really safe for the price range so tell your son to drive safe😉

Or you could get a 80s Volvo 240 or something.

It used to be enough, but these days I think you need a bit more. $4k if you can.
