Hi Scotty,
I just read there is a 1993 Corolla still running with its original engine and gear box in New Zealand. The second owner is hanging on to it and driving 5000 km a week. Is this the most mileage you have come across ?
5000 km a week.

Bottom line is good/consistent over maintenance and non abusive behavior. My longest mileage car that I have ever owned was a 1999 Passat 1.8T. Was my wifes from new. I always did engine oil 3-5k synthetic and YES changed the trani fluid every 60k even thou it was the phony "life time" fluid. I ended up donating the car as a "driver" with 220k miles about 2 years ago. Little turbo smoke on start up but it ran and drove great. Used about 1 QRT every 1000 miles. We also live in the rust belt and yes chassis washing and being garaged helped. Car had "0" rust. For a VW I'll take it.
