My car has been overheating. It was leaking coolant and the temp gauge turns to red. It over heated and I took it to a mechanic and he said it was the water pump. He changed it and 5 days later the engine still over heats and the car has a sweet smell. What is wrong?

If you smell the coolant, you have a leak somewhere. First find out where it leaks. You may use some uv dyes for that. Also, check the following video for overheating car and last but not least, find another mechanic.

If you can smell coolant in the car, you have a leaking heater core.  Check all parts of the cooling system - radiator, heater core, thermostat, water pump, reservoir, hoses and radiator cap, etc.
