Is it acceptable to clean and regap 2 stroke outboard spark plugs.
Yes, I've done it many times on motorcycles, outboards, chainsaws, etc. FYI if you're getting a lot of fouling, sometimes your coil(s) the problem.
No fouling. Was told 2 stroke had to be changed every season, plugs look clean.
Don't like spending 20$ a plug for three plugs every season for no reason.
Gee, I would go more by hours of operation, than by season. I mean, I would use my bike for 100 hours a season, a chainsaw maybe 10. Of course, lead-free gas made plugs last a LOT longer. The more important thing these days is to use fuel stabilizer, what with the ethanol in gas, if you want things to start in the Spring.
K100 is the only one I use, its the best and most trustable.
$20 a plug, whoa, that is unexpected. I love that you took out the spark plugs yourself and inspected. Why fix something that aint broke. Out of curiousity, who said to replace every season? Also, hmmm, does your engine take the oil from a resevoir or do you pre-mix? It doesnt matter because the plugs are clean, Friendly reminder, compare the plugs to a chart to verify what is going on in the engine. This could be the start of Scotty Boats, lol.
Marina of course. Why fix that aint broke, refuse to be stuck in the middle of the lake. Oil injected, 08 merc 50hp. I do put a fair bit of hour on it, especially idling, go fishing every week.
Dang at me, never thought about being stuck in middle of the lake. Would definitely pay $60 bucks to not get stuck.
I cut a lot of wood every year for my own use and last year tuned up my chainsaws with a fresh plug among other things, and they had at least 5 years of me cutting enough to get me through the winter. When the saws started getting aggravating to start and run I did a full tune up on them, now they are back to doing good 🙂 Also, my riding mower which mows my large rough yard, took me 7 years to decide to change the plugs, and I'm not sure if it was even needed.
All that being said, my guess for why someone would say to change them yearly is because its a boat. Kind of like maintaining an airplane, you don't want them to go out on you in the middle of using it. I'd be tempted to just keep some plugs on the boat along with the tools to change them just in case you got stranded in the middle of the lake.
Yes it's a boat. I do keep 3 plugs onboard with tools. As for the mower, I changed my plug last year after about 10 years just because.
lol I understand 🙂 I think since you keep them onboard with tools you would be fine!
