Saw a 2000 Toyota Celica GTS on Craigslist for $2500 from a private party seller. It's an automatic with 171,000 miles on it. Is she worth it? Very tempting.
I would go for it but have a trustworthy mechanic check it out first. Best of luck!!
Would like to mention that it is a yamaha collab engine. Things to look out for is that it might just almost be time to do a head gasket so keep an eye out on that. Also tends to have problems with oil burning if you care to add a little every now and again. My friend has one of these but with a manual trans and stage 1 clutch haha. No idea why but I guess it gives it a more sporty feel. As Mr. Avalanche13 says. Get it checked by a tech if you don't know what you are looking at first. If the dude refuses an inspection for whatever reason, walk away.
DEFINITELY get it inspected. @BruceREE is correct....Yamaha had a hand in that motor and they are prone to having head gaskets go out in that mileage range.
If it checks out and you like it, and you are not going to use it as a daily driver, offer up $2000 and see if they take it.
Either run away now or get it thourougly inspected and don't expect much. That generation was subpar, the engine won't last as long as Scotty's. Why do you think they are so cheap? That is around the mileage that head gaskets go out with the Yamaha engines.
In modern times, people asked used cars for less money. That is because they are unreliable vehicles like the Chrysler 200s and others. So avoid it or buy it for very cheap and use it as a weekend toy. They have problems like what @kerem said above my post.
Check out the video...Scotty gets to the 2000 Celica at the 4:07 mark. I'd stay away from it.
