Truck overheated

2000 Chevrolet Silverado 4.8

I left my truck idling and temp gauge went to 260.I know bad to let a vehicle overheat, I left the truck cool off,oil level is if full and good color, coolant level a bit low but still has coolant in the overflow. Ran the truck at 2000rpm, in park coolant temp went back down, truck starts good, what do I need to check and see if the truck is good? Please help me I was scared, truck has 153,000 miles

Not a bad idea. As Scotty always says, oil is cheap and engines are expensive. You might want to consider checking condition of the trans fluid as well since the transmission cooler is probably integrated with the radiator.

Ok thank you, After I let the truck sit and cool down, I went to check the coolant level coolant level iss full , oil level is full and good color, I was able to squeeze the upper radiator hose by hand, transmission fluid is good color and has a good smell
Did I dodge a bullet?

That's a red flag that your cooling system isn't working properly. It should tend to overheat when you are standing still and revving your engine, not the other way around.
