When I put it in drive wouldn't move and when it did the rpm would go up but not speed up and someone fixed something temporarily under the car but don't know what it was cuz he said it was a temporary fix

Well, if the guy messed with the shifter linkage maybe the shifter linkage just needs work. If it's not going into gear and staying a neutral it would do that
How would I fix that? He said something was bent and idk who this guy was he was a stranger that helped out so I can't ask him
