2000 ford ranger rear brake vibrations

Hello there my name is Mike Lemke. I drive a 2000 ford ranger 5 speed manual with the 2.5 liter engine. When I brake hard, I notice a vibration that feels like it is coming from the rear tire on the driver side. If I have to slam on the brakes the driver side rear wheel will sometimes lock up and squeal. Do you know what this may be caused by?

Thanks.

Yeah, remove the rear hub, see what's going on. Simple drum brake, spring off or cylinder jam extended.

If you prefer, yes, you can do "piecemeal" fixes, drive it a little, do more fixes, drive a little, and on it goes.

Why not just replace the brakes on both sides, all the springs (RockAuto has a complete OEM Motorcraft hardware kit for $5.16, see link below ?), shoes, and as needed the brake cylinders and drums. Not that costly, doesn't take much time, fairly easy to do on those old drum brakes, and you have a long term (70,000 miles or more ?) fix.

And you can drive happy ...
