Would this be a good buy for 6,000 I live here in Corpus Christi and it looks like a nice car but I know you have your problems with jags just want to know your thoughts before I buy.
this is what the add says
This car is all original like it came out from the factory back in 2000.
All of the options that Jaguar was offering 21 years ago.
Equipped with V-8 supercharged engine, also has a automatic transmission. Engine and transmission runs and drives excellent with no problems.
All of the windows including the soft top goes up and down with no issues. The car comes with all of the books, 2 keys and some service records.
Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy this car.
What are the issues??
“Some service records” ????
If you have $6000 to throw away, go right ahead..
It’s a 21 yr old British car. Have you learned nothing from the old top gear & the grand tour?
I don’t know about you, but I’d listen to @doc
I have brand new Jags come into the shop all the time for problems. If you work in the industry or if you know about older British cars, you know that mileage isn't the concern. It's the electricals that kill those cars.
I will say, I love a good Jaguar as the styling has almost always been very good. But back then, they were famous for their lack of reliability and cost of replacement parts. Even worse than they are today.
I can understand the desire to buy one as a toy for weekend drives, etc. But just know that if something breaks on it, it can EASILY pass the $6000 you paid for the car. And as far as electrical issues go, chasing them down on a Jag can drive you to drinking. They didn't exactly use the best materials back then, and age has really bought the lack of quality into the light.
It's a nice car, don't get me wrong. But would I buy one? No.
Jaguars are generally nice cars, cars like the newer XJ are even quite reliable.
But I really don't think spending that much money on a 21 year old "bri'ish" car is a good idea... It's going to be very hard and expensive to repair when it breaks, and it will break.
If it was an old Xj, I would probably say not great but not bad, but an XKR is a big no, DON'T BUY ONE.
I had an XJ6 which I sold last year, fantastic car, nothing wrong with it regardless of its age (23 years old, over 120k on the clock but was faultless) A lot of people will say don't buy it but Jags are great cars, never had a supercharged one though. And Top Gear is a **** programme. I remember them filming by me some time ago, two of the three presenters would drive after heavy drinking sessions, not the best people to take notice of
