Scotty, I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.0L I-6, 4-speed automatic, Selec-trac four wheel drive with 138,024 miles on it that slips between second and third. On light load, sometimes it'll slip from third into second with a bit of a clunk. On heavy acceleration, it'll slip from third into second and chirp the tires. What are your thoughts on repair work that needs done to this transmission or should I have it replaced? I work six to seven days a week driving a company vehicle and therefore don't get to drive my Jeep very much. I've only put on 5,271 miles in 6.5 years, or 811 miles/year. I bought it used in August 2014 and intend on keeping it forever. I don't like the over-computerized, all independent suspension, new ones.

Also, whoever bought this new, bought it with an open differential. I intend on replacing it with a limited slip differential. Got any recommendations?

This is my second Jeep Grand Cherokee. My first was a 1993 4.0L I-6, 4-speed automatic, Selec-trac four wheel drive and limited slip differential, that i never should have sold. That thing went through 38" of snow in the blizzard of '93 like it was nothing. It saved me tons of shoveling.

Thanks for reading this.

Mac

I think you need to find another transmission. Rebuilding your car transmission correctly cost a lot.
