Hi Scotty and all,
I'm from Malaysia and about to graduate university next year. I plan to get 2000 Nissan Maxima/Cefiro with nissan 2000 V6 engine, automatic transmission, 130,000 KM milage from a private individual. Is this a good car or should I get 2000 toyota camry 2.2 GX L4 automatic instead.
Oh get that Camry & thank me later!
That generation of Camry’s can last forever provided its been regularly serviced.
Get the car inspected by a mechanic before you buy it.
Get the Toyota by far.
The Nissans are piles of junk specially with that mileage.
I have owned a 2000 Maxima since 2002. I now have about 265000 miles on it and use it as my daily driver. The engine still runs strong and still has the original transmission. I love this car and plan on keeping it a lot longer. That said, I am able to do a lot of the repairs myself and there have been several over the years (as you should expect on a car this old). Scotty did a video about Maximas of this generation and was overall positive about them.
My daily driver is a 2000 Nissan Cefiro A33, Japanese version of the Infiniti I30, which is basically a dressed up Nissan Maxima.
It is only 200 000 km, but 20 years old. The two main repairs have been the radiator sub frame that got corroded (stg like $1000) and the AC compressor failing (amazingly found an OEM brand new spare for $150 on the net)
It burns no oil, no coolant and is still in a very good shape, and pleasant to drive with its quiet and vibration free V6 engine and smooth suspension.
