How about some detailed reviews on the 2001-2004 Dodge Dakota 3.9lt 4x4. Pro and con with details on why. Simply says “it’s terrible” or “I love it” doesn’t hold any weight. Thanks
Sure, I can give you a great review on that truck.
My best friend had a 2001 Dakota Sport with the 3.9L Magnum.
Pros:
1. It went for 500k miles on the original motor
2. The design was pretty nice inside and out
3. Enough power for work duty. He is a car wash technician so heavy fans, chemicals, etc. were always loaded into the bed and no problem
4. Decent MPG
Cons:
1. Dodge build quality. The interior literally deteriorated as it aged
2. It went through three transmissions in a quest for that mileage
3. It always had an oil leak, coolant leak....something going on with it and it loved to pop radiators. My Dad owned a 1999 Dodge Ram with a Magnum V8 and it did the same thing. No idea why.
4. The paint quality was terrible.
I'll be completely honest: the ONLY reason that thing made 500k was because I serviced it for him religiously. He is not a car guy in any way, so he asked me if i could help him keep it maintained and of course I agreed.
The day he sold that truck, it was valued, literally, at scrap. Bent in half, beat to death, knocking, smoking....but still rolling. I've not seen another one go that far.
Would I buy one? NO SIR. I busted enough knuckles keeping that thing going. One of those headaches in a lifetime is enough.
Hope that helps you out.
Now that is useful. Thanks Mod Man
