Hey guys. Thanks to you and Scotty's videos, I was able to put new dexcool in my car today (110k miles)) after driving for about 2 weeks with distilled water. Everything is fine and dandy, however, I wasn't able to replace as many quarts as I wanted. As far as I know, my park ave should hold 13 quarts. I was only able to replace about 7. It was the same when I replaced with water. 7. Is this typical? The car is older. Do I have a cloggy radiator or something? Many thx.

you can never get it all out. A lot ends up hanging in there, but I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you get the air out, and enough antifreeze in . Check it with an antifreeze tester ($8)

Oh OK. Awesome. I figure 7 new quarts is better than the gunk that drained out of it.

It sounds like you didn't drain the engine block.

Thx for answering. I did. I flushed it like scotty with a garden hose. That's why i'm confused. Maybe it just doesn't take 13?

How did you drain the block? Petcock on the block? Blow it out with compressed air? That 13 quart figure probably includes the heater core which would also need to be drained.

That's right. I drained out of the petcock and removed the engine hoses and blasted water through them like scotty. I think you are right ont he money with the heater core not being drained. Thx a lot. I figure 7 quarts of fresh coolant will probably do me good. Right?

That should do the trick. You can check it with a hydrometer to make sure the concentration is right.

Awesome. Thx so much.
