Hey Scotty,

I love your channel been watching it for a long time... I just brought a 2001 ford Explorer v6 4.0L with 273 k miles on it still shifts amazing like butter I can't even fill the shifts at all I've got it for my, daily driver... No tranny issues as of yet I've put about 1 k on it so far, I need an SUV bc I need something to haul my trailer/camper around its my home on wheels. I've not yet pulled anything with it yet... You did a review of a 2005 how many miles do you think mine will last I want to have you look over it if and when you have time I live in Washington State and I'm thinking of driving it down there, to visit some family in Ky. I've emailed u a few times and didn't get any response ... Is this a reliable Suv and for how long..

It's amazing the thing made it this far, already over two decades old with high miles. I would not count on it lasting a whole lot longer but it's always possible if you take it easy and do proper maintenance it could go for a while.

I wouldn't really consider a 20+ year old car with almost 300k as reliable. I hope you didn't pay too much.

That's not necessarily a good thing. When a transmission starts to fail, the shifts can become softer and mushier, until you can't feel anything because it won't upshift at all! When you test drive a vehicle, you need to take it on the highway and push it hard. The shifts need to be firm and confident under acceleration, not wavering and hesitant, or else the clutches will just start to cook and disintegrate.

That's why you always see Scotty take customer's cars on a long country road, and floor the accelerator pedal!

I would not be opposed to using it as a daily driver if needed, I would give it a lot of extra preventative maintenance love though.

Using it to tow a camper would scare me, that is one good way to finish off an older transmission, and perhaps other components. I hope the camper is very small and light.
