Hi Scotti
I have been offered a 2001 Mercury Villager van "as is" for free. It has 60 thousand miles on it and the engine is quiet and idles smoothly. Transmission seems to shift smoothly and the oil does not smell. I pulled a tire off and there is plenty of brake pad left and the tires are brand new. One problem is the motor mounts have deteriorated to the point there is no rubber left so the engine clunks when going from drive to reverse. It looks like changing them is no big deal. There are complete kits available under $50 on line.
I understand Nissan made the van for ford and marketed it under their own name and called it a Quest.
Taking into account the age of 21 years any opinions of this era Nissan/Ford van? How were Nissan's V6 engines of that era?
For that price I'd just drive that van until something big goes wrong with it. Heck, if it died the next day you could sell the new tires and make a profit! Just don't put a lot of money into it. ($50 motor mounts are OK.)
Who cares? The price is right.
Good one. {pear}
Free is always good.
It's free so who cares if it's the best car out there or not; just drive it until you have to dump it. Just don't put too much money into it. And given having this car for now in the meantime look around for a good reliable used car so you can buy as a backup. Since you already have a car you won't be in a rush to purchase something else so you can wait and find a good deal hopefully.
