Hey Scotty I have a 2001 nissan maxima with 127,777 miles on it Automatic took it to get inspected at an Ammco by house they stated that my pasanger side axle boot was leaking my and that my passenger side axle needs replacing valve cover gaskets were leaking and motor mounts need replacing is it worth putting the money into it or should I get rid of it as soon as I can and get a Honda or Toyota?
Never take your car to one of these chain stores. They just want to rip you off. Find a local, independent mechanic to work with you, not against you.
Took it to another mechanic replaced lower control arm axle and wheel bearing all on the passenger car still needs motor mounts and he said valve cover gaskets were leaking quoted me 630 parts and labor for valve cover gaskets and spark plugs is it worth putting more money into it or just get rid of it so far put 2k into it worth putting more money into it or just sell it its a 2001 nissan maxima almost 122k miles
All the items you’ve mentioned are normal wear & tear replacements for a 20+ yr old high mileage vehicle.
If the engine and transmission are still in good shape, ~$3000 is still cheaper than paying >$10,000 for another car today.
With that said, how much is your car worth? Have you got any offers already?
I haven't listed it yet now I have a rear main seal leak in the car got quoted 2,500 for the real main seal and valve cover gaskets I'm just gonna try the AT-205 reseal
AT-205 might not work on the valve cover gasket. Does the valve cover leak oil until it’s dripping onto the ground?
No drips on the ground that I know of I park it on a flat surface same with the rear main seal
If it doesn’t leak onto the ground, leave it alone. Just keep adding oil, and maybe try AT-205 for the RMS leak. Fix only the critical items in such an old car, in order to not get stranded. In the meantime, keep an eye out for a suitable replacement Toyota/Honda. All the best!
