2001 Toyota Avalon XLS SRS code

Hello,

I have a 2001 Toyota Avalon XLS with 150,000 miles. Recently the Airbag light began to flash.

I have an OBD2 scanner (Innova 5310 v1) which can read Toyota SRS system codes.  The scanner

shows B1140 (Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH). I've disconnected the battery and checked all airbag related connectors.

All connectors are firmly fastened and in good shape. There do not appear to be any wiring issues. The side airbag sensor

is behind the seatbelt. At one point I removed the sensor from the vehicle and put it back in, just to make sure I was capable of replacing the part myself.

Purchasing a new sensor will cost approximately $250, and is non-refundable.  I understand that the airbag system is complex, so before throwing any money at it,

my questions are:

Could the B1140 code be a false positive? If so, would a more sophisticated scan tool make it possible to identify the real problem?

Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you for reading

If your scan tool can read that type of codes, then it's not a false positive. I would replace the sensor to be safe.
