Toyota Corolla 2002 E120 hatchback (RUNX) 1.6L petrol 4 speed automatic transmission , 120k miles . Noise at speeds above ~30MPH. Same noise also in neutral (while driving at speed as above ). Transmission shifts like a dream . No special noise when turning . Two mechanics said noise is coming from the transmission one identified vibration in the CV shaft entry into the transaxle said transmission needs to be replaced or rebuilt .
Questions :
- Can this vibration be attributed to a bad bearing at the input of the CV shaft to the transaxle ? Can it be replaced without rebuilding the transmission ?
- What will happens if I keep driving it like this ?
Thanks ,
Asaf

Try replacing the offending axle shaft with a rebuilt unit. Unbolt the old one, bolt in the new one.
