  • Hello I have 2002 ford ranger 3.0 auto trans with 215k miles. Sometimes under load the truck will just jerk forwards. At first it was really bad where if I went up a hill it would just jerk 1000 times but now it seems better but still does it sometimes. Also the idle is very inconsistent, it will be fine one second then idle at 600 rpm for a second And just spudder. I've replaced a lot of things on the truck including fuel injectors, spark plugs, coil pack, spark plug wires, MAF sensor, iac valve, fuel filter, ect. I checked fuel pressure and reads as follows, 55 psi with key on engine off, 65 psi key on engine on. When I turn off the engine the psi drops fairly quickly . like 8-9 psi in only like two minutes. Seems suspicious too me but I need help.

That mileage I would replace the fuel pump the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel filter with that drop and pressure there's something going on there

I should have mentioned it did this after it sat for about a month. Maybe the fuel filter got clogged up?

Scotty doesn't answer follow-up questions in the same thread. Definitely replace your fuel filter. It's easy to get to. It will be in the fuel line on the back of the driver's side frame rail, basically right below your driver's door. My '99 would have intermittent hard starts, that went away with a new filter.
