The short answer: "Jaguar" is another way to spell money pit. That mileage on a 17-year-old car is suspect.
Stay away from that car if you value your money.
As I see it, there are two problems here. First, it's a Jaguar, an English built vehicle by people who can't even figure out a simple DC electrical circuit, not to mention their inability figure out how to stop oil leaking from everywhere. The second problem is that you are going to a dealer, who is undoubtedly a professional liar and will rob you blind.
Terrible cars. Your first repair bill will be more than the purchase price.
X-type is probably the worst jag ever made. Stay away from those clunkers.
If there were an old Jaguar, this is the one I would consider. I know nothing of the reliability of the exact model you are looking at. But I do know the platform is the Ford CDW27 platform.
Which was developed by Ford and Mazda. The underpinnings are probably more Ford than Jaguar. So it might* not be a money pit like Jaguars might be.
But please do your research on the specific vehicle and parts availability. If Ford built many cars on the platform, parts might be cheap, but if there aren’t too many, or it is more of a Jaguar, it might be an endless money pit.
