Engine noise when cold

2002 Mercury Grand Marquis LS

My 4.6L Mercury has 230,000. miles on it. I did a rebuild at 156,000. due to a spark plug that "popped". Also replaced the intake with a Ford intake, no aftermarket part then. I make sure all the regular maintenance is done on a regular basis. I am now hearing a horn type of noise when the engine is cold. I live in Kentucky where we experience colder temps in winter etc. This noise seems to happen with a cold engine intermittently in drive. Like when I am sitting at a stop light after just leaving my home after a short driving distance. It seems to go away when I acerate at low speeds, like leaving from a stop light. When the engine is warm, I do not hear it. My horn works fine and that is not what I am hearing. Does not seem to be any loss of power and my gauges are all within normal range. I am the second owner of this vehicle with the first ones being my elderly next door neighbors. I have driven this car for 15 years and this noise is a new one for me. Any thoughts of what this could be? Thank you. I am also new to this forum. Thank you for all you do.

Well make a YouTube video and post it and give me the URL and I'll watch it. But for my experience, if it doesn't when it's cold only on those engines, it's often maybe a bad hydraulic lifter. See my video finding the source of car noises to pinpoint it

Thanks. I have a sound recording of it when in traffic if that helps. No video because I am driving.

If you have an audio mp3 file you can use an mp3 tag editor to import a suitable still image into it, then pull the file into a video editor and export it in a video format like mp4 for youtube. Or, failing that, just upload the audio file to a file sharing site and post the link here.
