I’m just wondering what your thoughts and experiences are with the Mercury Villagers. Ours is a 2002 Sport model with 185,000 miles on it. We’ve owned it for 6.5 years having bought it used from a Ford dealership at 117,000 miles for $3200.

Not good, not bad. Average quality and worth what you paid for it.
The Mercury Villager was a collaboration between Ford and Nissan. Ford branded it the Mercury Villager. Nissan branded it the Nissan Quest.
The first two generations of this vehicle was based on the Nissan Maxima platform, modified.
I don’t know much about this platform, or the longevity/quality. With that said, since this Nissan platform was built before the Renault merger with Nissan, I would say it may potentially rival the quality of Honda and Toyota at the time. Just a guess, maybe others with direct experience with the Villager, Quest, or Maxima of that generation may offer details.
If there is one thing that is good about Ford’s influence on this Nissan engine, is they made it a non-interference engine. At least with the first generation, and presumably second.
