I'm looking in to purchase a 2002 Rav4@ 154,000 mls. I did some research on the vehicle, and came across The ECU/ECM issue, the seller _claims_it was replaced whilst on warranty, but it could be potentially fatal for the car if the ECU/ECM wasn't replaced. My question is...if it was indeed replaced, would the transmission be considered safe and sound thereafter. I realize a car this old is a gamble. The Vin is ( JTEGH20V420067259 ) If that helps, thank you

I would not risk it. Look for another model year.

If the module was replaced under warranty, then the dealership should have a record of it.
Call them with your VIN# and ask.
If a diagnostic scan doesn't reveal any problems and it test drives OK, then I wouldn't worry about it.
