- Hey Scotty, I have had my Toyota Rav 4 for the past 5 years. The Rav 4 still has the original motor and transmission. The only thing that I have fixed were the oxygen sensors, alternator and catalytic converter. I have done a great job of doing regular oil changes every 5,000 miles. The engine does not burn any oil and it still rides smoothly.
Over the past month I have notice that when I shift the Rav 4 in reverse it makes a noice. Once I shift it in drive the Rav 4 stops make the noice. I am not sure where the sound is coming from but It sounds like it is coming from the the engine. The Rav 4 has no check engine light on. Do you have a clue to what could be causing this?

Well Prince Warren CV axle it often is because if it isn't it could be internal to the transmission. Also check for broken engine or transmission mounts
