Topic starter
I used to hear my truck crank before it starts up, now when I turn the key it's silent for a second then starts, is this a sign the starter is beginning to go bad?

Could be a flat spot but these events on as starter usually begin and occur intermittently.

Check all of your electrical connections first, especially the largest cable connected to the starter. Exposed connections can corrode and cause intermittent problems. Check battery next on a load test. Then check alternator output at idle. Should be about 14 volts.
