Scotty,
Been watching you for years. I like your personality. Like your opinion on cars and no favoritism either.
2016 VW Golf Sportwagen 4dr S
I have been regularly doing oil service each 10,000 miles. Done transmission and brake flush. Changed brakes and pad.
The car has 98,000 runs great. No problems.
Question - do i sell before the 100K or keep it as long as possible?
I do not mind either way.
Thanks,
JC
Put it up for sale. If you are happy with the offers, sell it. Otherwise, keep driving it. But change the oil more frequently (every 5k miles).
10,000 miles is too long for VW engines...
I wouldn't keep it for longer then 100k miles especially if that's a DSG.
okay thanks for your input and yes it is a DSG (6 speed)
That DSG model is rated to last 200 000km (120k miles)
I wouldn't risk keeping it for over that cause the Mecatronic units on these are unreliable not to mention the overpriced clutch packs.
I have see the DSG mechatronics fail on an Octavia with 2000 kms..
Yeah, A family member's car (Skoda Rapid) chewed through 2 mechatronics during the warranty (100,000 km) period and now it's being recalled under a class action law-suit...
It drives so well and it's so comfy but the quality is very disappointing.
oh then guess i have pasted that and good to go. I currently have 98,000 miles (157715.71 KM). sorry if i made a conversion mistake on 2,000 KM
oh sorry just read the 200,000 KM (120K miles). Okay coming soon thanks for the info
No I actually meant 2000 (two thousand) kms. If I were you, I’d get rid of it while you still can & while it’s still worth something.
Eh it’s Europe, at least where I live VW Products with 60k miles after just 3 years go from $35k (car taxes in my country aren’t fun), to $11k.
They basically depreciate worse then almost any other viechles, probably even worse then the Focus dual clutch.
so I do not think that that Golf is worth anything especially with almost 100k miles…
If it is the turbo you really need change your oil every 5k miles. If it’s paid for and still running fine just keep up with service, (transmission too). Unless you can get a price your happy with out of it towards something else I wouldn’t sell it. I’d just drive it until it dies, while saving to buy something else eventually. I certainly wouldn’t fix any big ticket items if they pop up.
thanks for the info but the owner book say change oil every 10K which is full synthetic , does that matter and i heard newer cars like my 2016 can go further, yeah i have been hearing from people just drive it, thanks for your input
Yea I know what the manual says. Trust me, change it every 5K. Understand most car manufacturers today are counting on planned obsolescence. They don’t care about you or the car once it’s out of warranty. They just wanna sell you another one. Change it at 5k and your wallet will thank you later when you engine is still running.
on my 1999 honda i use to change it every 3-5 so i should do the same even if its full synthetic, thanks
You probably drive mostly on highways. Highway mileage does much less wear than city mileage. If you decide to sell it, you will not get much for it.
well it was both but more freeway, i know i would not get much but just worried about longevity of car.
reason for my question to keep or sell since it have 98K
What engine do you have?
i believe i have the TSI 1.8L turbo CXBA (dealer said) not the CXBB
Has your car also been recalled and repaired?

i have had only the gas leak recall done. There is no current other recall on my 2016. Thanks for the link. I will have to look at my car again for recalls.
