My friend just purchased a 2002 Miata with an aftermarket turbo kit. It idles erratically, has intermittent starting issues and the code scanner reads code P1170. Any direction or help would be greatly appreciated.

Take it to a pro tuner, sounds like the fueling is all off, timing tables probably need to be touched too.
