Hi Scotty, I have a 2003 Toyota (5th Gen) Camry V6 SE with it going on shortly 154k on the clock. The car is very well maintained since I bought it new as the original owner. I also live in Northern Illinois, where the weather changes at any given moment.
My question is now as it gets colder and has this has happened for 4-5 years now, again. On initial cold starts below 45 degrees Fahrenheit it will 9 out of 10 times make this “Kazoo” type noise upon startup. It almost sounds as if the pinion gear on the original starter is not retracting fast enough. However, this has been happening for several years in cold temps and all runs fine once the engine is warmed up. (I hope I just didn’t Jinx myself, just now)
Otherwise, the vehicle runs awesome! So, what is your experience/opinion might this annoying startup noise would be coming from?
Thank you,

@hlikensii
can you make a video with the noise and post it?
Generally that is the starter as long as it runs back I had afford that did weird stuff when it was cold in the winter not in the summer I drove it forward 4 years that way
