Hi Scotty! I have a 2003 Ford Escape, 2WD, 3.0L with 155K miles. It runs good and doesn't burn any oil. However, at random, about once every month or two, it just won't start -- no matter how much cranking it does. The funny thing is, if you leave the car sit overnight, it fires right up! (There are no codes other than a generic evap code which it's had for many years.) Your thoughts?
Thank you Sir,
Mick
When is the last time that air and fuel filters were changed?
Air filter, 6 months ago. Fuel filter, now that's a good question. That was one of my ideas too, but I wanted to hear Scotty's insight on all possible causes, and I'm wondering how it could be that it gets "clogged" only every couple of months. (It's had the non-start issue maybe 3 times this year -- but let it sit for 8 or 10 hours, and it starts fine and goes another few months.) I'll change it if I can, and maybe clean the MAF sensor. I'm just hoping it doesn't end up being the fuel pump!
