So after scanning the code it came up for knock sensor. I've noticed a difference in fuel consumption also the car stutters at times but the CEl light will turn on and off every so often . Should I be running better gas? Connection seems fine. Don't know where to start

Well on those 99% of the time, when you get that code it means you need a new knock sensor. They are quite a bit of a pain in the butt to change because they're hiding under the intake manifold
