Hello Scotty and friends! I recently aquired an automatic 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS with a 3.5 ltr engine for my teen daughter to drive. It has 130000 miles on it. Don’t laugh, it was well taken care of and dirt cheap to me. It has a stalling/surging problem when stopping at a stop sign or light. I did some research online and found someone who said a purge control valve that is faulty can cause this especially if you have just filled the gas tank. Is this plausible, and are there any other issues I should look at? I have to add: since I test drove it again today, it started out with the same issue, but it went away after driving several miles. Suggestions?
How old are the air and fuel filters. (Hopefully not 20 years old.) Is fuel pressure OK? Fuel injectors clogged? Any vacuum leaks? Have you scanned for codes and anything suspicious in live data? Also, how long has it been since the timing belt was replaced? Factory service interval is 4 years or 60,000 miles. The timing belt should have been replaced 4 or 5 times by now due to age.
