2003 Lincoln overheating

Topic starter

Scotty, my mom's 2003 Lincoln Town car with 176,153 miles on it overheated the OBD2 codes are p1229 for both Banks and p1285. Coolant was bubbling out of the radiator cap, but I didn't see leaks anywhere else. No smoke.

What do you think is wrong with it? Please help.

P1229: Check the Intercooler Pump. You might have to replace that or the wiring is bad. https://www.engine-codes.com/p1229_lincoln.html

P1285: Check the Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor. It's either gone bad or the wiring is faulty. https://www.autocodes.com/p1285_lincoln.html

Don't forget to check traditional causes of overheating such as thermostat stuck closed or clogged radiator.

If it's bubbling out of the radiator cap, you have a bad thermostat and a bad radiator cap.
