Scotty,
I have a 2003 Saturn L200 that I bought new and have taken good care of. Engine and transmission maintained and no problems and the body is in great shape.
The BCM (Body Control Module) started having problems after the warranty was up. The headlights, the dash lights and gauges turn off and back on every so often. The remote locks also quit working. Recently, the odometer does not display the correct mileage. It increments but it will decrease in mileage every so often. I suspect the BCM is the problem for these issues.
I have been living with these issues, but my concern is the BCM will completely die and the car will not start. Is it worth it to buy a BCM and is it possible to program it without going to the dealer.
Thank
Frank
It is your BCM it’s a known problem, It’s a very hard Module to program. Uses the IPC and ECM and key fobs data also and the programmer needs to know specific options of your vehicle. You better interveiw the persons abillity to make this repair. I hated programming the older Saturns. It is very easy to make a mistake.
Its a 99 percent that it is the BCM. It is a known problem. You do need know how to program Saturns. Make its a GM BCM. Saturns are there own breed in programming I have done many.
Is it worth it to buy a BCM and is it possible to program it without going to the dealer.
I don't know if a dealer would have to program that but if so you're in kind of a tough spot since obviously there are no Saturn dealers. Today's GM dealers would not be familiar with your car, many of their technicians are younger than your vehicle is and have never even seen a Saturn.
I suspect the BCM is the problem for these issues.
You need to take the car to a mechanic who can diagnose it with a professional-grade scan tool to determine if that's the case.
