I have a 2004 Buick Lesabre that only starts if you pull the high-beams and turn the key at the same time. Why is the car set up this way...I am not sure if this was done by the dealer or aftermarket.
Well that is a strange situation...but I will venture this...you would have to investigate the old "cause and effect" type repair and take off the steering wheel and see what physically does pulling the high beam switch cause the ignition switch to work an visa versa as well. Why does the ignition switch NOT work by itself. No one sets up a system this way unless its intentional but then again...was it normal before and it changed or you now possess this car and you found it this way ?
I was given the car and that is how I always found it to be...I have brought it to Firestone and they have never seen anything like it.
If thats the story..it may have been intensionally modified to stop anyone from taking or stealing the car as they did not know the hi beam switch was the switch to enable the starter circuit. To fix it you would have to trace the high beam switch to see what it controls to probably cut off the starter switch enable wires and disconnect it. Then again..maybe you want to leave it alone as is.
This is definitely not done from the dealer I have a 2003 lesabre and never heard of such a thing.
Well, now you have..
