- I have a 2004 gmc envoy 2wd with a 4.2l engine. After going into a parking garage my transmission started acting up. It only slips after after between 20-30 minutes of run time. Fluid is burnt. I have to replace radiatior as well due to a crack in the top that was found after the transmission issue started. Any ideas on what can help the tranny before I bring it to a shop? If i kill the suv and start it back up it starts shifting fine for a while.

the longer your drive it before taking it in , the worse it's gonna get. I wouldn't take it anywhere unless it was on the back of a flatbed.

If the fluid is burnt it's already too late and it's going to just keep getting worse. Either have the thing towed to a transmission shop or, if likely with an 18-year-old Envoy, cost of repair exceeds the value of the vehicle start looking for a replacement.
