Hi Scotty, thanks for what you are doing. I love your channel etc. I have a 2004 Honda Accord LX, 4 cylinder, 2.4 litter. It has 300K miles. I live in Los Angeles, CA, and AC has not worked for a few years, which started as intermittent where the air would be cold, then just blow warm air. I also hardly ever turned the AC on since I owned the car in 2007. A mechanic said my compressor stops turning, and it needs to be replaced. I’m a 61 yr old female and pretty handy, and have a electronics background. I verified my AC relays are fine, and my heater works. I’d like to verify it’s really the compressor. What tips do you have, and should I or my husband change it? The mechanic gave me an estimate of $1300. My car has been great overall!
You could shop on the repair, but you may not want to do the work yourself. Replacing the compressor isn't that challenging, but testing/evacuating the old refrigerant/putting in the new refrigerant and lubricant is pretty complex and requires a substantial investment in equipment.
Scotty has a number of AC service videos that will give you some background.
