2004 Mercedes E320
The front battery not being charged while engine is running. Dash message "visit workshop".
The main battery gets a charge, and alternator test showed no issues with it.
The front battery control unit was replaced, no change.
What could be the problem?

Well of course you should start by having the battery itself load test and it could just be a shot battery. When they're worn out they will not accept a charge. But if not that good luck those things are so complex. You replace the control unit but realized you may have to reprogram the car when that unit was replaced because of Mercedes-Benz insane design
