Hey everyone, I was looking around for my first car and saw a 2004 mazda miata with 49k miles and an automatic transmission for 10k. 1. are the automatics reliable? 2. is it overpriced?
1. The automatics are slow & not the most reliable.
2. Wayyyyyyy overpriced.
Find yourself a good manual Miata & it can last a long time.
They're okay vehicles. I would go down to $7,500. Check with the mechanic. Most people don't buy automatics in Mazdas because they are very slow to drive. I will advise getting a used manual Miata as a weekend toy.
The price is a bit high (very overpriced in real world value, but Miatas always go for good money). If you can drive a manual/or are willing to learn how to drive a manual, find a manual. Whatever you plan to buy, make sure to have a mechanic check it out before buying and check out the used car buying guide.
If it had a manual sure why not (they generally hold their value), but it an automatic and they are very slow and they are worth nothing really. Now if you can't drive stick and u really like the car and it has 49k miles, I would offer him probably offer him $5000-$6000, because the automatics are not worth much.
